Meals Are for Exhausted Caregivers Too

Not long ago, we received a note from a grateful daughter, whose mother, 90, was failing. It read in part, "Even though my mom no longer recognizes what good food looks or tastes like, I do. It’s clear that your kitchen staff puts real care into preparing meals that are both nutritious and delicious. That effort shines through, and it means so much." Knowing that her mom was getting care from us was an enormous source of comfort for this daughter/caregiver. A few of our elderly clients are the sole caregiver for their spouses, who are completely dependent on them. One wife/caregiver, age 89, said, "I feel guilty taking a meal for myself." To which our client coordinator replied, "You're exhausted. You're functionally homebound too--taking care of him 24/7. And you deserve a break from cooking every meal." Another caregiver told us, "Every day that I get the meals for me and my wife, it's like Christmas. I can sit down with her at our table and enjoy a quiet, delicious meal with dignity. What a relief." Here's to all the caregivers who work so hard to shop and cook and care for their loved ones. We're happy to serve you too!
